Not, perhaps, the first LP that Zep purists turn to ? and the band themselves weren?t entirely happy with the end result ? but it remains a significant landmark in their career and a historic monument to the grandeur of rock in the pre-punk era. This remastered version overseen by Jimmy Page provides a formidable insight into the band at a time when they were the biggest draw on the planet, capturing them in their full, rampant pomp at Madison Square Garden. Acting as soundtrack to the movie of the same name (although track selections between album and film don?t always correspond), it draws on material from their first five albums. Rock has rarely been more epic, and the near 15-minute version of Whole Lotta Love is surely the ultimate indulgence for any self-respecting headbanger.
